A resident for 3 years...

(5.0 out of 5 stars)

As a resident for 3 years some of the posts here are not that accurate. Yes on the weekends the rooftop bar/ lobby can get busy and a little pretentious. It can also be a bit of a deal getting more than a few friends to the rooftop but the view is worth it. Overall the building is on of the few in the neighbourhood that has amenities with some great views overlooking the park which is very hard to find downtown. It's nice to have a gym and access to the rooftop and restaurants.

I've never had an issue with noise/ thin walls and never hear my neighbours or have been kept awake at night from the hotel/ bar scene. Also the costs of maintaining the hotel establishments is separate from the condo corp and it's own fees for condo owners. We have many happy clients here also :)

Many short term rentals

(2.0 out of 5 stars)
by Alan Aug 01, 2017
The units are on the small side which most are from 300-500 sq.ft., with some large units in the 850-1,100+ sq.ft. but very little in between. Because of the number of tiny units in this building, many have been bought by investors and turned into rentals or AirBnB short term stays which is oddly allowed or tolerated in this building, which for an end user/occupant is not an ideal living situation. Also, the rooftop pool amenity is taken over by the public so you will rarely enjoy this amenity in private or in peace and quiet. The units in the two buildings facing each other have very little privacy and light as they are pretty close to each other, however, the units in the larger building facing south will endure the traffic and bar crowd noise of busy King West every night. The features and finishes are decent. There is also an issue with the garbage. The rat, mice and odor problems associated with the significant number of open dumpsters from the restaurants and bars nearby has been a long on-going problem.

A loud bar area...

(3.0 out of 5 stars)
by Joshua Shang Feb 13, 2017
Let's not kid ourselves. You don't go to the Thomson to have a quiet and undisturbed sleep. There is a rooftop "bar", 1 restaurant, a lobby/lounge bar and a nightclub in the basement. This is where the young 20/30 something go and pretend they are in hollywood. This is also a great place to people watch and experience nightlife at your footsteps. As some of the posters have pointed out, you need a resident card that's restricted to 2 individuals, so no free-reign. One long term concern I would have: Costs of maintaining those establishments if business ever drops - will condominum fees subsidize the restuarant/bars?

LOVE living here

(5.0 out of 5 stars)
by Cindy Smith Feb 04, 2017
I personally LOVE living in The Thompson. The Rooftop is magnificent, the gym is one of the best I've seen in any condo and the concierge staff is great. It can get loud on the streets at night on the weekend but so can any where that is downtown. I've personally never heard my neighbours. I have been there for 4 years and have never had a problem getting up to the roof. There IS a 2 person rule but they let that slide if it's not jammed up there. The 2 person rule is to prevent one single person from occupying a large portion of the roof which I think is fair. My place has floor to ceiling windows which lets in tons of light but I guess the lighting will depend on each unit. I have been in a one bedroom with two patios that also is very well lit. And the area is A+. I really can't see a reason to complain :)
