Amazing location and condo

(5.0 out of 5 stars)

I have rented at the opera place 887 for 5 years. The location is top-notch and without a match for being close to U of T, Ryerson, Subway, Eaton centre just to name a few. The building just recently (2020) underwent huge renovation and restoration to the hallways and it looks amazing. The gym has new equipment and is clean. There could be a pool but I’m not fussy about that. The security is so friendly they know me and greet me by name now. There is free visitor parking which is rare in downtown Toronto. This building does not disappoint.

Generally nice, one problem

After living here for 2 years, I can say that this building is overall quite nice. The lobby is beautiful and units are spacious and the security and staff are friendly. The elevators are generally fast and it's a great location right in the heart of downtown Toronto. There is a gym and party room but that's regarding amenities. The building itself is nice but there is one major problem that needs to be addressed. That problem in ants. Yes, ants. The building has had a severe Pharaoh Ant problem for over 6 years and continues to have it to this day. Since I moved in I've been trying to deal with this constant ant problem, but the building management seems to be avoiding the issue at all costs. Personally, I find it disgusting and annoying and the fact that the management won't deal with it just makes it that much worse. (Just fyi, 887 Bay Street is directly attached to 889 Bay Street and tenants in the 889 side are having the exact same issue with the ants, so it is in fact a building-wide problem) All in all, 887 Bay Street is a nice place to live if you like a clean building with a good location, nice staff and you can manage with few amenities but if you don't like living with ants throughout the year, I would say that this isn't the building for you.

Nice place, free parking

I have a friend who lives in this building, so I visit it quite frequently. As a visitor, the one thing I must say is that I love that there is free visitor parking. This is a huge plus for a place downtown and makes coming to visit our friends so much easier. Overall, I like the building. I think the units are a decent size for a downtown condo. I do find the design of the building, especially the carpet in the halls a little out of date.

Building is very well kept

Overall a very comfortable and nice place to call home. Despite the somewhat outdated decor, the building is very well kept. The location is convenient with short walking distance to College St streetcars and two subway stations. Building is well run by a Board of Directors and pleasant building staff. The visitor parking is a nice bonus for sure.
